Loving Your Enemies

Today is the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech. A few months ago I came across another testament to his spiritual brilliance, a speech called Loving Your Enemies. In honor of him and the great work he has done (and is still doing today through the countless reverberations of his voice and his works), I am linking to the speech below in hopes that we can all read and be inspired by it.

What caught my heart and mind by this speech was not just the title, but the content. Martin Luther King Jr. does not just talk about the theoretical reasons for loving your enemies, he begins by giving practical advice for how to go about doing it! And it begins with analyzing self!

I hope you will enjoy reading this speech today. And just as we renew the Three Jewels every time we take refuge, we renew the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. by reading his words and working to put them into practice in our daily lives.

Thank you for reading! Thank you for your practice!

You can find the speech here: Loving Your Enemies.

  1. It’s so easy to beat up on people who are misbehaving, but I can just catch a whiff of something that tells me if I can love and free them, I’ll love and free myself at the same time.
